The Tzeltal Tzotzil Cooperative The cooperative was formed on August 19, 1986 with 19 coffee producers. Today, they are a total of 300 members in 6 municipalities around the Altos de Chiapas region that are characterized by having the largest population of indigenous peoples who speak the Tzeltal and Tzotzil languages. The main purpose of the cooperative is the commercialization of coffee, honey and handicraft products locally and internationally under fair conditions. As a primary basis, the conservation of the ecosystem, the promotion of agriculture and the improvement of local infrastructure. The organization also strives to engage and promote women in various activities, to support group for women. The area produces red Garnica, yellow Garnica, Typica and Bourbon coffee varieties. The sale of coffee has become one of the most important activities for the cooperative.
The coffee is roasted & packaged in Catalonia, Spain.
